Dabbling in Different Industries Through Freelance Work
Every so often, I pick up side projects outside of my regular work. Recently, a flooring company reached out looking for help with a social media campaign. They’ve got access to affordable flooring and want to promote a flooring installation offer. I’m currently working out the details of pricing, but the landing page and campaign framework are already built and ready to go.
One of the things I really enjoy about freelance jobs is the chance to dabble in different industries and see how they function. That curiosity is actually one of the main reasons I got into the cannabis industry. For me, it wasn’t about a love for the product—it was about stepping into a new space and learning how to market in an industry that was just getting off the ground.
Back when I was with MediaNews Group/Digital First Media, I ran a ton of online ads across all kinds of industries. That experience gave me a wide base of knowledge to draw from today. Each project feels like an opportunity to learn more, to design with an industry’s personality in mind, and to figure out how to market its products or services effectively.
Freelance projects like this flooring campaign remind me why I enjoy what I do—it’s not just about the creative work, but also about discovering how different industries tick and finding the best way to tell their story. (Mock-ups)
