Turning 18 Years of Service Into a Customer Retention Campaign

For 495 Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM’s 18-year anniversary, I wanted to create something that went beyond simply celebrating a milestone. The goal was to turn the “18 Years Strong” message into a practical service marketing campaign that could help bring existing customers back to the dealership.

The Concept

The campaign centered around two simple ideas: 18 years in business and 18% off service.

From there, I developed a coordinated set of print and digital pieces that used the anniversary as a reason to reconnect with current and past customer.

The campaign included:

  • A custom 18 Years Strong anniversary graphic
  • 5×7 direct-mail postcard promoting 18% off service
  • A separate 5×7 postcard targeting customers with one complimentary oil change remaining
  • A responsive DriveCentric email campaign
  • A prominent Schedule Service CTA
  • Supporting educational content about the importance of regular oil changes
  • QR codes and direct links designed to make scheduling service easy

Using Customer Data to Make the Campaign More Relevant

One of the more targeted pieces of the project focused on customers who still had one complimentary oil change remaining.

Instead of sending another general dealership promotion, the messaging gave these customers a specific reason to return:

“Have You Used All Your Complimentary Oil Changes?”

The email reminded customers to check their remaining benefits and encouraged them to have a seasonal vehicle inspection completed during the same visit.

This created an opportunity to use existing customer data for a more relevant retention message rather than relying solely on broad promotional advertising.

Designing Across Email and Direct Mail

Consistency was important throughout the campaign.

I carried the dealership’s navy, orange and white color palette across the email, postcards, buttons and calls to action. The email was built specifically with responsive behavior in mind so images, typography and CTAs would adapt to mobile screens.

The primary action remained simple throughout:

Schedule Service.

For direct mail, QR codes provided a quick path from the physical postcard to the dealership’s online service scheduler.

Adding Content Marketing

I also incorporated an existing dealership blog article about the importance of regular oil changes into the email.

Rather than treating the email strictly as an advertisement, the article provided useful information about how regular oil changes can help protect engine performance and prevent unnecessary wear.

This gave the campaign three layers:

Reminder → Education → Action

Customers are reminded about their available service, given a reason why maintenance matters, and then provided with a clear way to schedule an appointment.

The Takeaway

This project demonstrates how a single anniversary message can become a larger customer retention campaign.

Instead of creating one standalone “18 Years” graphic, I developed a connected system of creative assets that combined branding, customer segmentation, email marketing, direct mail, content marketing and conversion-focused CTAs.

For me, that’s where marketing and design work best together: the creative gets attention, but every element has a job to do
